A Rainy Day, a Great Breakfast and One Last Night Together

A Rainy Day, a Great Breakfast and One Last Night Together

Today started with a pretty simple idea.

We should go get breakfast.

It's still wet and rainy with the nor'easter passing through, so there wasn't much happening outside around the farm anyway.

We decided to head over to Jefferson to a breakfast place called the Breakfast Club.

I've driven through Jefferson several times and had seen good reviews about the place, but this was our first time actually stopping there.

When we arrived, we noticed a sign on the door.

CASH ONLY.

Of course, neither of us had enough cash.

We went inside and asked if there was an ATM nearby, and they directed us across the street, across the green, to an ATM outside the ice cream shop.

It was early on a Monday morning, so the ice cream shop was closed, but it looked like a cute little place. The green itself was really nice too.

While walking over, I noticed an old building alongside the green that said Maple Museum.

Well, that's another place I'll have to go back and check out at some point.

Once we had cash, we headed back to the Breakfast Club.

Inside, the restaurant was really nice. There were even fresh flowers on the tables.

Along one wall was an assortment of honey and maple syrup. We later found out that these are the same products they serve in the restaurant and they're locally produced right there in Jefferson.

Then we looked at the menu.

It was huge.

Double-sided and packed with choices.

And apparently that wasn't enough because there was an entirely separate menu just for pancakes.

This place is definitely serious about breakfast.

It's really a true breakfast and brunch place, open daily from 7:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The food is fresh, and even the breads are made on-site.

My cousin ordered a Western omelet with corned beef hash.

I ordered cinnamon raisin stuffed French toast with berries, cream, and walnuts.

I have to be honest.

It was one of the best things I've eaten.

Ever.

I'm not sure what else needs to be said about breakfast after that.

When we got back to the farm, I spent some time outside playing ball with Wyatt.

The rain has been coming in bands, so whenever there was a break, Wyatt was more than ready to take advantage of it.

Later, I decided to take my cousin up to Mt. Utsayantha.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature wasn't cooperating.

Normally, the view from up there is incredible, but today the clouds were so low that there really wasn't much of a view at all.

We'll have to try that one again another time.

We headed back to the farm, and I gave Wyatt a treat in his bone.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty relaxed.

We hung out inside while the rain continued, occasionally heading outside between rain bands so I could throw the ball for Wyatt.

Apparently, nor'easters don't cancel cattle dog activities.

Eventually, my cousin and I decided to head back out for dinner.

I ordered Chicken Francese with angel hair pasta.

Or, as my partner calls it...

"Pounded chicken in various sauces."

She's not entirely wrong.

My cousin ordered meatball Parmesan over ziti.

Dinner was delicious.

On our way back to the farm, we made one more stop at the bakery.

And yep...

I got the Tuxedo Bomb again.

I love that thing.

My cousin got the chocolate chip cookie lava bar again.

So apparently he liked that enough the first time to make the same decision twice too.

Tonight is my cousin's last night here before he heads out tomorrow.

We didn't accomplish any major projects today.

The tractor stayed covered.

Nothing got moved.

Nothing got burned.

Nothing got demolished.

And thankfully, we didn't discover any more piles of garbage.

Instead, we found a new breakfast place, discovered another place I want to explore, attempted to see a mountain view that Mother Nature wasn't willing to show us today, ate some really good food, played with Wyatt between the rain bands, and spent the day together.

The projects will still be here when the weather clears.

Tonight, we're just relaxing and enjoying my cousin's last night at Memory Lane before he heads home tomorrow.
